A second roundtable under the aegis of International Trademark Association (INTA) and hosted by Andra Musatescu Law & Industrial Property Offices took place at the Siqua Hotel in Bucharest on November 4, 2009.

Dr. Andra Musatescu, the Chair-Person of the event, welcomed the participants, said a few words about the last year event organized by Andra Musatescu Law & Industrial Property Offices under the aegis of INTA organization and apologized that the order of the presenters would be slightly changed.

Ms. Elena Stoica, the Head of the Appeal Sub-division within the Appeal and Strategy Department of the State Office for Patents and Trademarks who spoke about the interference between well-known and renown trademarks.

Ms. Adina Ciurea, Examiner within the Documentary Analysis and Synthesis Division of the State Office for Patents and Trademarks explained about a recent project related to trademark searches in a number of EU Member States.

Ms. Monica Pop Chief Prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court explained the role of the Public Ministry in Fighting against Counterfeited Community Trademarks and identified a few recent developments.

Mr. Petre Ohan, the Head of the Appeal and Strategy Department and Chair-Person of the Appeal Commission within the Romanian State Office for Patents and Trademarks gave a very interesting and extended presentation about the OHIM jurisprudence, comparing the said with cases the State Office for Patents and Trademarks ruled upon. Mr. Ohan’s presentation was followed by a short Q&A session.

Ms. Ramona Cainamisir who replaced Ms. Georgeta Mitroi - the Head of Department, Direction for Supervising of Customs Operations within the Office for Protection of Intellectual Property Rights of the Romanian Customs - discussed about the recent developments on “Community Customs Applications”.

Remarkable animated discussions followed after the presentations and Dr. Andra Musatescu ended the session by thanking all the presenters and the participants and invited all to the pre-arranged lunch.

The participants at the roundtable were well-known names in the IP world, being, inter alia: judges, attorneys-at-law, trademark-attorneys, customs officers, head of divisions and examiners from the State Office for Patent and Trademarks, prosecutors, industry representatives.

The roundtable was very well received and had a good impact on the participants.

The first roundtable in Romania under the aegis of International Trademark Association.

The first roundtable under the aegis of INTA was hosted by Dr. Andra Musatescu Law & Industrial Property Offices and took place at the State Office for Patents and Trademarks headquarters on November 21, 2008.

Dr. Andra Musatescu was the Chair-Person of the event who welcomed the participants and said a few words about the INTA organization.

The floor was then taken by Mr. Petre Ohan, the Head of the Appeal Department and Chair-Person of the Appeal Commission within the Romanian State Office for Patents and Trademark who gave a very interesting and extended presentation about the ways the appeals are considered and ruled upon at the State Office for Patents and Trademarks and OHIM, remarkably comparing the two systems.  Mr. Ohan’s presentation was followed by a short Q&A session.

Ms. Georgeta Mitroi, Head of Department, Direction for Supervising of Customs Operations – Office for Protection of Intellectual Property Rights discussed about the “Community Customs Applications”.

Ms. Monica Pop and Mr. Alexandru Lucian Arjoca, Chief Prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court explained the role of the Public Ministry in Fighting against Counterfeited Community Trademarks and identified a few cases in the pharmaceutical industry which became subject of further discussions and raised questions among the participants.
